Takumi and his daughter Hana live in Mizubiki Village, close to Tokyo. One day, the village inhabitants become aware of a plan to build a camping site near Takumi's house offering city residents a comfortable "escape" to nature.

In the absence of their parents, Johnny (15) and Jennifer (17) are being brought up by their "big sister" Tanya, an overdressed transvestite who eats and smokes too much and causes both kids endless embarrassment. It's a situation ripe for problems (actually, more complicated than I've made it sound), and Tanwarin's debut feature - as director, writer and star - explores those problems with unbridled determination. Both kids mess up their pursuit of romance, in the ways that teenagers do, and both look for ways to break away from the family home and become independent. For Johnny, this entails going into male prostitution, which is as much an attempt to erase his own self-esteem as a way of earning some fast bucks. Jenny makes other mistakes, but both of them wind up deeply dissatisfied. And Tanya? When Johnny catches her trying to seduce one of his buddies, things start to go downhill for her too.

Jeong Woo is sent to a sanitarium deep in the mountains to overcome his alcoholism. There he meets a young nun named Maria who has a special ability to see inside people. In this isolated sanitarium, Maria is the only person who seems to care for him and soon he feels drawn to her. While struggling with his withdrawal symptoms, Jeong Woo has a vision where his reality is different from what he believes. The further he escapes from his alcoholism, the closer he gets to confronting the past that he has denied for years.

Aspiring university student Aiba Takashi is studying in order to try again for the university examination. One midday time seems to stand still for everyone and everything around him. Moreover, this phenomenon repeats daily. Yet, he is not the only one who is aware of the situation. There is an explanation and there is someone who holds the key to that explanation. Aiba Takashi failed to get into a university and studies to take his entrance exam again, while he isn't really interested in anything particular. One day, at 12:15 PM, time seems to stand still for everyone and everything around him for a whole 1 hour. Takashi then encounters a golden-brown eyed girl, Shinomiya Tokine, who can also move when everything else is stopped. Since then, at 12:15 PM every day, everything stops for 1 hour. During this "loss time", in a world where only two people move, the distance gradually decreases and so as his feelings for her grow.

But Tokine seems to have a big secret, related to this magical phenomenon, and Doctor Issey Asami holds an important key to it.

In her stirring portrayal of Yuna, accomplished pop and television star Miyoshi Ayaka sings and plays the sanshin, a traditional Japanese stringed instrument. Director Yoshida has worked closely with the locals of Minamodaito to craft a sensitive and poignant impression of a young girl on the cusp of adulthood, torn between the alternately attractive and conflicting natures of tradition and progress. Uploader's Comments: Even though I was a bit skeptical at first, it turned out to be a really enjoyable watch. Recommended if you like your films a bit restrained but still with a lot of heart. Yasuhiro Yoshida also also directed Enoshima Prizm, a film I've had my eyes on but not seen as of yet. After this one, my expectations has definitely risen. Rip note: The bitrate might seem to be too low but it really isn't. The DVD was extremely compressible, had to look twice to make sure I used the correct settings.

When we last saw Gye Doo-Shik in the 2001 Korean gangster comedy My Boss My Hero, he was a second-in-command gangster who was forced by his boss to get a high school diploma in order to move up the mob ladder. There, he was subjected to bullies, rival gangs, and various forms of corporal punishment. The film became a mega-hit and was etched forever into Korean pop culture history as a leading example of South Korea's popular gangster comedy genre. Five years later, Doo-Shik and company return for more of the same in the sequel My Boss, My Student. This time, there's more of everything -- a larger cast, more subplots, more violence, more gangsters, etc. Even the screen is wider. The result is a true blockbuster that brought twice the box office gross of its predecessor (as of now, it is the second highest-grossing Korean film of 2006).

Nojima Satoshi (Junichi Okada) is a photographer whose job depends on his friend Shingo, a model, who in turn is in a middle of a career crisis. However, they're aware of each other's presence by the sounds they make in their daily lives through the thin wall. Through twists and turns, they gradually realize their true desires; and on the road to reach their goals, their paths somehow intersects in this believable modern-day fairy-tale.
