In Osaka, Kiyomi-B becomes enchanted with rakugo, a Japanese traditional form of comic storytelling, and pursues a career in rakugo. In the summer of 1982, Kiyomi-B and her family move to Obama of Fukui, her father's hometown. Kiyomi-B's grandmother and uncle welcome the family, but Shotaro the grandfather does not allow Masanori to take over the Wakasa lacquer chopsticks making. One day, Kiyomi-B listens to rakugo at Shotaro's factory and becomes fond of it. Shotaro and Kiyomi-B become close through rakugo.

She chases after him and asks, "would you like to do some work (arubaito)?" It turns out that Kazumi in her last letter from New York had written that she was in a relationship with someone and that they might soon marry, but since then she has broken up with him, and she didn't want to make her father upset by coming home alone. The man, a freelance journalist named Yoshimi Kaoru, agrees to pretend to be her fiancé. On reaching home, Kazumi discovers that her father is not actually on his deathbed (he just had minor surgery), and everyone discovers that Taku had written that letter back to Kazumi where their father says he's happy about the relationship. But the biggest shock comes when Kazumi admits that she's pregnant, and that she wants to have the baby...

    Wataru Honjo is a veteran suit actor who resents popular young actor Ryo Ichinose for getting the role of Black Dragon in an upcoming film version of Dragon Four, a role he had wanted to play himself. Hostilities continue on the set of the movie, but eventually the two men start to gain respect for each other and even start to form a friendship.

    Soon, Ryo is given the starring role in an upcoming Hollywood movie titled "Last Blade" being shot on location in Japan. However, production is eventually halted when a stunt actor quits abruptly, refusing to film a dangerous scene in which his character fights a team of ninjas while engulfed in flames. The foreign staff members are left in the lurch, but they soon decide to call in the man they've heard is the best stunt actor in Japan - Wataru Honjo.

    Kazutoyo lived during the end of the Sengoku period (1546-1605). He was the first feudal lord of the fief of Tosa on the island of Shikoku. He served Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Tokugawa Ieyasu.

    Chiyo (1557-1617) was his wife, and was known in history for her dedication and devotion to her husband (like Matsu was to Toshiie in Toshiie to Matsu). She is the daughter of a samurai who served the feudal lord Asai.
