Takano has been transferred to the Public Security Department, which is considered to be an elite among the Japanese police. A murder of a ruling party tycoon occurred near the scene of a bombing that occurred. An organ was removed from the body, and a balance with a heart and wings was left in the vicinity. Takano, who attended the scene of the bizarre incident, felt uncomfortable with the killing method that imitated ancient Egyptian mythology, and even though he began to tell the story, his colleague Himuro dismissed it.

Following the ascension to power of Taira no Kiyomori, the Minamoto clan is exiled. Minamoto no Yoritomo meets Masako, the sister of Hojo Yoshitoki and later marries her. Following this marriage, the gears of Yoshitoki's destiny begin to turn.

Hiroto Miyama works with rookie lawyer Honoka Kono on a team that specializes with criminal cases for Madarame Law Firm. Atsuhiro Sada has become the director of the law firm. One day, the law firm receives a request about a case that took place 15 years ago. The case was about a poisonous wine incident.

Himura Kenshin is a legendary swordsman who has stopped killing people with his sword. Instead, he uses a dull-edged sword. He tries to live a peaceful life with Kaoru who runs a swordsmanship school in their village. Kenshin's past catches up to him causing the destruction of Akabeko Restaurant, which was Kenshin's favorite place to eat. There, he finds a note with the word 'Jinchuu' on it.

The story begins shortly after the finale episode of the 2018 drama, and then moves to 2020, two years later.

Kisaragi Toko is a detective in the Investigation 1 Section 11 of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. Her senior, Detective Hideaki Takano, has decided to move to the Public Security Bureau. Hideaki Takano’s transfer will be carried out in 1 week. During this time, a murder takes place. A wealthy man is found dead in his home. His throat has been cut and a blue flower placed within the wound. Also, the victim's wife Mayumi is missing. A newspaper then receives an email from Kurasuta 16, professing themselves as the murderer. The email also implies the location of Mayumi. Set at the end of Edo period. With the approaching threat of foreigners, the Annaka lord's Katsuaki Itakura decided to train samurais by holding an excursion running through ten Gosato (about 58 km) along the mountain road.

He doesn't have any interest in criminal cases which can not make money.

Saigo Takamori, the hero of the Meiji Restoration, was born to a poor, low-ranking samurai family in the Satsuma domain (present day Kagoshima Prefecture). His simple honesty caught the attention of its charismatic feudal lord of Satsuma, Shimazu Nariakira. Nariakira’s assertion that the love of people is what will enrich and strengthen the nation captivated Saigo who took on Nariakira’s secret mission and eventually became a key person for Satsuma. Not a portrait of him survives today and much of his life is a mystery. He is a man who was twice exiled and thrice married. He overthrew the Tokugawa Shogunate with exceptional bravery and action. Although he accomplished the restoration, he lost his life in a fight with the new Meiji government.

Kouno Etsuko loves fashion and dreams of working at the editorial department of the company which publishes the fashion magazine ‘Lassy’. She has been taking the employment exam for several years. However, she is constantly rejected because the editorial department has not been hiring for some time. Even so, Etsuko perseveres and goes for the interview every year to the extent that she is now a famous person in the company. One night a week later, Etsuko receives a phone call from the human resource department about a job offer and is overjoyed. And so, she heads to Lassy’s editorial department in high spirits on her first day of work. She is told that she has got the department wrong and is designated to the very unglamorous proofreading department, which checks for misspelling, missing characters, errors or inconsistencies in the content of manuscripts before these go to print. Furthermore, Morio Toyoko, her junior from high school days, is a fashion editor. Under the assumption that she had been assigned to the editorial department, Etsuko vehemently protests to Takehara Sho-on, the head of the proofreading department. Takehara tells her that she may be able to transfer to the department of her choice if her work here is recognised. So Etsuko decides to work hard at proofreading with the goal of transferring to the editorial department. Although she starts learning the basics of proofreading, she does not have sufficient knowledge of kanji. Her exasperated seniors find her unsuitable for the job of proofreading and Etsuko pours out her frustrations about her work to Toyoko and company receptionist, Imai Seishiru. Then Etsuko gets assigned to proofread the manuscript of popular leading mystery writer, Hongo Daisaku, because she is the only one in the department who is free. Dressed in flashy clothes, she enthusiastically tackles her first job, going beyond her proofreading work to get into actual locations to verify facts. She tries to do her job to perfection for a transfer to the editorial department, but her unorthodox approach to proofreading infuriates Kaizuka Hachiro, the editor in charge. Then Hongo asks to see the person who proofread his manuscript. Meanwhile, Toyoko is told by her editor, Kamei Sayaka, to look for candidates to be the magazine’s first exclusive male model. She scouts a guy called Orihara Yukito through photographs of handsome men she found on the internet. A fourth-year university student who intends to be a writer, Yukito flatly rejects Tokoyo’s invitation to be a model since he has no interest. At the same moment, Etsuko happens to encounter Yukito …

On December 25, it is Shuko Yoshioka's (Kazue Fukiishi) 34th birthday. She has a good time with her husband Kenichi (Munetaka Aoki), her first child Ai (Konomi Watanabe) and her second child Yu (Hinata Igarashi), but Kenichi notices something different about Shuko. He asks her if something is wrong. She tells him that she might have breast cancer. She also says that she already received a test, but is waiting for the results. Shuko goes to the hospital to find out the results of her test. She hears from the doctor that she has terminal breast cancer and surgery is not an option. That night, her husband tries to comfort her. Meanwhile, Kenichi receives the results of a check-up he received a couple of days ago. He notices that it says "needs reexamination." Kenichi goes in for a reexamination and is diagnosed with lung cancer. Like his wife, he is told surgery is not an option. Kenichi, attempting to protect Shuko, does not tell anyone about his test results.

Mikako is a young junior high school teacher who has just transferred to a new school. Excited to be starting a new job, she volunteers for a coach for a boys volleyball club. But, she finds out that there is almost no activity in the club… There are only 5 members, and they are all losers who haven’t even touched a volleyball and only think about girls…

To give them an incentive to try hard, she promises them that she will show them her boobs if they win a game! Since then, the boys start practicing extremely hard. Feeling uneasy but happy at the same time to see their attitude changing, Mikako starts to like and trust them. She also learns from them and gets back her confidence which once she lost.

Right before the day of the first game, ‘the promise’ is discovered by the school side, and it becomes a big problem…

Ango goes to the scene of the crime, but is shot in the head by the killer who is lurking at the crime scene. Ango hovers between life and death. At that time, he thinks to himself "where do people go after they die?" and then "I don't want to die." A miracle then happens. Anglo survives with the bullet still lodged in his head. He goes back to work. A new murder case takes place. When Ango goes to the crime scene he notices a boy who looks like he is about to cry, but only Ango is able to see the boy. The boy is the one who was killed. Since Ango was shot, he can now see and talk with the dead.

Kano Haruko is a charismatic shop assistant who has such excellent fashion sense that she has been featured in fashion magazines. However, she is unable to give up her dream of being a high school teacher. Haruko is asked by her former teacher to teach Japanese to foreigners for three months on the understanding that he would introduce her for the high school’s Japanese language teaching position. And so, she becomes a trainee teacher at a Japanese language school where she coaches nine foreign students with strong personalities, including an Italian anime enthusiast and a Swede who is in love with ninjas, according to her own convictions, while setting her sights on becoming a high school teacher.

In the chaotic days of the 1960s, Misuzu, a lonely high school girl from a troubled family, finds sanctuary with her nihilistic brother, Ryo, and his friends. They pass their days hanging around a shadowy jazz cafe bar, indulging themselves in a life of sex, drugs, and alcohol. Social unrest simmers, while their relationships gradually falter. Misuzu gets drawn into a dangerous plot against the society that was hatched by one of the rebellious youths, Kishi; they will rob a bank car of 300 million yen! The two accomplices set out for numerous rehearsals, while in their hearts they secretly and quietly become even closer. Then one rainy day, aided by coincidence, they pull off their heist successfully, which has a huge impact throughout Japan. However, it brings Misuzu only a great sense of loss and sadness, which she had never anticipated...

The 300 Million Yen Affair is one of the most well-known real-life unsolved crimes in Japan. The incident took place on the rainy morning of December 10, 1968, when a car that carried 300 million Yen was hijacked by a criminal wearing a fake policeman's outfit. Even though more than 100 pieces of evidence were left behind by the criminals, with 170,000 policemen against 110,000 suspects spending almost a billion yen in the investigation, nobody was arrested and the stolen money was never found. The investigation was officially closed for prescription in 1975.
