Tsukiko, who belongs to a photography club at high school, always felt inferior to her elder sister, Tomie. Tomie is breathtakingly beautiful and popular among the male students including Toshio, who Tsukiko is secretly in love with. However one day, an awful accident kills Tomie right in front of Tsukiko. Since then, Tsukiko suffers from a nightmare night after night. A year later, Tsukiko and her parents are silently surrounding a birthday cake to celebrate dead Tomie's 18th birthday. Suddenly, they hear eerie knocks on their door. Unbelievably, it is Tomie. She's back. The father and the mother blindly welcome Tomie in tears, but Tsukiko feels instinct fear. Tomie gradually reveals her true face only when she is with Tsukiko. 21-year-old Kiki Inoue works part-time at a convenience store. She spends her days in a state of torpor. One day, Kiki Inoue meets Takumi Asaba, who is the CEO of a convenience store chain. She has a social media account where she reviews sweets. Her social media account has caught the CEO's attention. Takumi Asaba gets her to work on developing sweets to sell at his convenience store chain.

Meanwhile, Takumi Asaba became the CEO to turnaround his company that's ranked lowest among convenience store chains. While talking about developing new sweets, they become attracted to each other.

In a society in which justice is awfully subjective, and the possibility of finding the truth is so complicated, detective Yugami simply chases after the facts of various cases. He will casually approach potential suspects and talk to them in order to attain new information. All he is looking for are the facts. He feels that there is no point in following the rules, nor trying to read the atmospheres of the environment he's in. For him, resorting to unique and illegal investigations is not out of the ordinary. To assist him, he also has a sidekick, Torao Hanyu, who's a serious detective with a completely different personality. For Yugami, he simply wants to arrest as many criminals as possible through his illegal investigation style, so Torao's existence becomes a bother for him. Two detectives with absolutely nothing in common, somehow try to combine their skills in order to combat the enemies of society.

40-years-old Makoto Tanaka has remarried and is now caring for Nanae, his new wife, and the two daughters from Nanae's prior marriage. Makoto tries to have an ordinary family, but when Nanae gets pregnant, things begin to change. His eldest stepdaughter becomes openly rebellious. Feeling stifled, Makoto asks his wife to abort the baby…

During the Sengoku period, the Ii family governs the Totomi region. Due to many past wars, there are no more male successors left to become a lord. Naotora Ii (Kou Shibasaki), the only daughter of the lord, now becomes a lord. She faces a difficult period. The constant love from her fiance, whom she became engaged with at a young age, helps her to keep moving forward.

In the fictional town of Mahoro on the outskirts of Tokyo is Tada Benriken, a small business which does odd jobs. Its owner is the solemn and level-headed Tada Keisuke (Eita), and his unexpected guest, the easygoing but vague Gyoten Haruhiko (Matsuda Ryuhei), a former junior high school classmate who showed up one day and started to sponge on him. The two of them get on like oil and water, and yet are somehow inseparable. They receive queer, dubious incoming odd job requests which they accept, and what comes into view are the friendship between them as well as the backgrounds of their clients.
