Zhang Wei Guo is a middle-aged man who is still a little-known actor in the Peking Opera Troupe. As an ordinary citizen residing in a Beijing Hutong, he is happy just like a goldfish that's contented in his own little world. Until one day, his father dies and many unexpected troubles ensue. The series of blows in his life and poverty forces Zhang Wei Guo to think about making a change. He realizes that he was too complacent and detached from the world during the first half of his life. In the process of challenging himself, he reaches the top yet loses himself. However, his family and friends guide him to realize the true meaning of life.

A story about Shanghai citizens is told from the perspective of Feng Xiaoqin and Gu Qingyu, two sisters-in-law who work through their differences to grow closer in the quagmire of life.

It has been ten years since Feng Xiaoqin (Hai Qing) came to the Gu family while pregnant with child to become their new daughter-in-law. The family's eldest daughter, Gu Qingyu (Tong Yao), has always been wary of her and believes that Feng Xiaoqin has "ambition" written all over her face. In each episode, the guests call ahead to order a dish they want, and the hosts attempt to make it. The guests help throughout the day and spend the night, leaving in the next episode. This season, regular MCs included He Jiong, Huang Lei and Henry Lau.
