    A Shinigami (Death God) drops a notebook in the human world where a young genius picks it up. The notebook displays the message: "The human whose name is written in this note shall die" It is the notebook of death that can determine when a person will die. Light Yagami, an extremely bright elite university student, is the one to possess this ultimate tool that should remain only in the hands of God. Light decides to create an ideal world and begins to hold the scales to judge the criminals in his discretion.

    Meanwhile, the ICPO (International Criminal Police Organization) has placed a mysterious detective called "L" in the Japanese police force to investigate the series of criminal cases. "L" is an eccentric genius who has successfully solved many cases in the past that were deemed unsolvable. With L's expertise, the police are able to tighten the investigative screws over these cases, but Light, also cleverly manipulating the notebook of death, tosses and shakes the investigation. The future of mankind is at the mercy of this fierce battle between the two brains.

Then one rainy day, aided by coincidence, they pull off their heist successfully, which has a huge impact throughout Japan. However, it brings Misuzu only a great sense of loss and sadness, which she had never anticipated...

    The 300 Million Yen Affair is one of the most well-known real-life unsolved crimes in Japan. The incident took place on the rainy morning of December 10, 1968, when a car that carried 300 million Yen was hijacked by a criminal wearing a fake policeman's outfit. Even though more than 100 pieces of evidence were left behind by the criminals, with 170,000 policemen against 110,000 suspects spending almost a billion yen in the investigation, nobody was arrested and the stolen money was never found. The investigation was officially closed for prescription in 1975.

A sports drama about hope, hard work, and perseverance.

    The series featured many firsts for the franchise, including the start of the story in a movie rather than the series proper. Ultraman Cosmos: The First Contact was the prequel to the series and took place ten years before episode 1.     Ten years later, Musashi, now 19 and a member of Team EYES, once again encounters the being of light from his childhood. The dark being Chaos Header has appeared and is corrupting the monsters of Earth, making them become ravenous and violent creatures that threaten humanity. Through Musashi's will to see the beasts and humans live in peace, Cosmos grants him a new power that will allow him to heal the corrupted creatures.
