The story takes place during a summer of continuous sunshine when water supply restrictions are issued in the city. Shunsaku Iwakiri works for the city's water department and his job is to visit homes and stores that are behind on their bills and either collect the money or shut off the water supply (water suspension enforcement). Shunsaku is separated from his wife and children, and his heart grows thirsty as he spends his days visiting poor households and being abhorred. One day, during a water shutoff, Shunsaku meets two young sisters who have been neglected. He sees them as his own children and offers them a helping hand.

Makoto Kanzaki is a university PR man swept up by a series of scandals for which he must create the perfect spin, only to find himself totally painted into a corner. A dark, satirical comedy about modern society’s contradictions and the sorrows they can inflict upon the individual.

Shibusawa Eiichi was born in 1840 to a farmer’s family. He grew up helping his family with work, which was to manufacture and sell indigo production and also silk farming. He left his hometown at the age of 23 and began working for the government. He later traveled to Paris and learned about banking. Upon his return to Japan, he helped build up the first modern bank in Japan. He eventually became a founder or supporter to about 500 companies and was involved with about 600 public services, including education for women.

Takami has a painful past. She has worked as a reporter for 2 years at a broadcasting station. She works on the news program "Afternoon Japan," but the program is on the brink of being cancelled. She is proud of her work as a reporter. One day, a female high school student is kidnapped. Takami and her senior reporter Taichi chase after a scoop on the case in hopes of reviving their news program. Following a police officer, Takami sees the victim's body, who was brutally murdered. ~~ Based on novel "Sirens no Zange" by Shichiri Nakayama.

Kuki Reiko is a single 27-year-old. who works in the accounting department of a mid-size toy manufacturer. An incident from her past makes her live a frugal life, only buying the necessities. A year ago, she found small dishes at a secondhand store that liked immediately. Since then, she has been returning to that shop, still debating whether to buy them or not. Finally, when she decides to make the 1680 yen ($15 ) purchase., she enters the secondhand store with great anticipation, only to have it dashed when she sees a couple buying the small dishes on a whim. Imagine her surprise when she recognizes Saruwatari Keita, her boss‘s son!

A few days later, Reiko goes to work and only to find Keita in the accounting department. His father got angry at his wastefulness and sent him there to learn the value of money. As the frugal Reiko is best-suited to teach him, he will find himself an apt student. But will her advice be just about money?

Rintaro works as a cameraman. He goes back to his hometown for his father's funeral. While preparing for his father's funeral, Rintaro's mother Akiko cancels the bento meal order that they were to serve at the funeral. Akiko tells Rintaro and her daughter Miyako that she will prepare the food herself. Rintaro and Miyako did not like the idea, but they can't do anything about it. When it's time to eat at the funeral, Rintaro, Miyako and other relatives are embarrassed at the table, because there isn't anything there. Akiko then tells them that cooking by herself at her husband's funeral was on his will. The first meal is then served, which is fried eggs. Rintaro realizes the fried eggs tastes just like what his father made for them.

40-years-old Makoto Tanaka has remarried and is now caring for Nanae, his new wife, and the two daughters from Nanae's prior marriage. Makoto tries to have an ordinary family, but when Nanae gets pregnant, things begin to change. His eldest stepdaughter becomes openly rebellious. Aoyama Takashi is a salesman who works in a company that exploits him. At first excited about finally gaining employment, he soon finds that his life as a salaryman is miserable. He is berated and hit by his superior, and forced to work unpaid overtime. Depressed and convinced that his joyless life is not worth living, Aoyama tries to throw himself in front of a train. However, he is saved by Yamamoto, a cheerful guy who claims to be Aoyama's childhood friend. Aoyama's life begins to change because of Yamamoto, but when he starts digging into Yamamoto's identity, he realizes that Yamamoto is not entirely what he seems.

A 30-year-old single detective (Nagase Tomoya), who is under the illusion that he is popular with females is called 'Unubore' by friends. He is an ultra romantic and susceptible to conceitedness. He has such a strong desire to marry to the extent that he has bought an apartment for his newlywed life. He falls in love with female criminals at first sight each time. While the sheer desire to meet wraps around him, he will get proof that the female is the culprit. And so, he will thrust both the arrest warrant and marriage papers at her, proposing with the words, "If you marry me, I won’t arrest you." If that still does not work, he will hold out an engagement ring and his handcuffs. In the end, the criminal will choose to be arrested and his heart will be broken. He will cry as he puts the handcuffs on her.

Domoto Tsuyoshi plays the lead character Tenma who has inherited the power to get into contact with spirits but is afraid of his ability to do that. Out of no choice, he has to take on the position of the president of an exorcism company. Kawaguchi Haruna and Minagawa Sarutoki will be Tenma's assistants in his "ghost-busting" missions. Serina will play an elder woman in the neighbourhood who chases Tenma around while Sato Jiro plays Tenma's late father who communicates with Tenma through his dreams.

In a residential area, a man is murdered by another man, who broke his apartment. Sergeant Kizaki, who is working near the area, hears a gunshot and runs towards the apartment. Detective Omura already is at the scene of the crime.

During their investigation,they get closer to finding out the identity of the killer. Soon, Sergeant Kizaki feels someone is behind the case. A girl then steps out from the shadows. Sergeant Kizaki feels she is linked to the murders somehow.

The murder of Emili, a young girl, leaves the inhabitants of a small Japanese village in shock. The raped body of Emily is found by the four classmates with whom she was playing. The murder is never solved. Emili's mother Asako is torn by grief and puts a curse on the four girls when they claim that they don't remember the killer's face. Each of the girls, in their own way, will do their penance for their silence. Deeply struck by the words of Asako and burdened with her curse, the four girls are forced into adulthood which eventually triggers a tragic chain of events.

When a mysterious plague spreads ancient Japan, a pure young man named Yoshihiko (Takayuki Yamada) is chosen to save his village. He sets out with his friends to find a legendary plant to stop the plague and also find his father who never returned after embarking on the same journey.

Esumi's character Tamami is the "bull doctor" of the show's title, which comes from the word "bulldozer." Ignoring any opposition from the people around her, she uses any means necessary to determine the truth behind the deaths of the bodies she examines. Because of her personality, she is constantly at odds with both Ishihara and Inagaki's characters.

Kano Haruko is a charismatic shop assistant who has such excellent fashion sense that she has been featured in fashion magazines. However, she is unable to give up her dream of being a high school teacher. Haruko is asked by her former teacher to teach Japanese to foreigners for three months on the understanding that he would introduce her for the high school’s Japanese language teaching position. And so, she becomes a trainee teacher at a Japanese language school where she coaches nine foreign students with strong personalities, including an Italian anime enthusiast and a Swede who is in love with ninjas, according to her own convictions, while setting her sights on becoming a high school teacher.
