This drama follows the lives of two men and a woman through two eras: one during the 1930s Japanese occupation of Korea and the other in the 21st century. The three main characters are:

(1) Han Se Joo who was a writer in his past life and a bestselling author in the present. But Se Joo is depressed with writer’s block so he can't write his next book.

The intricately woven story of these three characters unfolds to reveal strange mirroring connections between the time periods as well as possibilities for past lives to be redeemed or improved in the modern world.

As a fusion drama on the life of politician Kim Doo Han, the drama tells the life of Kim Doo Han with fact and fiction. Kim Doon Han is the son of the great general Kim Jwah Jin, who fought for Korea against the Japanese during World War II. After his dad dies, Kim Doo Han trains in kung pao and learns to be a leader against the evil Japanese. He finds his own position as boss of the Jong Ro area in Seoul, and vows to protect his own Korean people. Goo Ma Juk, the boss of Seoul, fights against Kim Doo Han in an attempt to hand over the whole Seoul area to the Japanese redevelopment project, pursued by Hyashi. Hyashi himself is a Korean but he ironically lives as a Japanese fighting his own people. Through these many barriers, Kim Doo Han struggles to keep the Korean culture alive, later on becoming a politician after the Korean War.

In Woo and Tae Hee are two college freshmen who didn't believe in love at first sight but later find themselves wrapped in a deep relationship that would last forever. One day they vow to make their love eternal by sealing it with a bungee jump. But their promise is never fulfilled when Tae Hee suddenly disappears out of In-woo's life for what seems like an eternity. Seventeen years later, In Woo is still unable to get Tae Hee out of his mind even though he's married and has a loving family. While giving a lecture to his students, In Woo is reminded of the memorable times he spent with Tae Hee when one of the students asks about his first love experience. Somewhere in Seoul, Jung Won runs a small shabby photo studio. Her daily visits to develop snapshots of parking violations and her somewhat bold attempts to capture his attention stirs a feeling inside Jung Won with which he deals in anticipation. As his health gradually deteriorates, Jung Won is faced with the painful duty of bidding farewell to family, friends, to the studio and Darim.
