Park Wan is a translator who is constantly pulled by her mother, Jang Nan Hee, to hang out with her elder friend, Jo Hee Ja, Moon Jung Ah, Oh Choong Nam, and Lee Yeong Won. The plot revolves around the friends' twilight years as they rediscovering themselves through relationships and family, the struggles they face due to their old age, and their life journey that they share with Park Wan in the hope she would write a novel about them.

Set during the Korean War and 3 days before a truce takes place. Nam-Bok is a South Korean soldier who was a simple farmer before his conscription into the military. He receives an order to deliver a top-secret document at a set time and place, but an attack by the North Korean army causes him to lose the document.

Meanwhile, Young-Gwang is a North Korean soldier, part of a tank crew. While heading to the South, his team is bombed and he is the only one left. He is about to return home, but he happens to come across a top-secret document. The two men face off in the western front alone.

Lee Jung-Yeon (Lee Min-Jung) dated Do-Hyun for 6 years and they will get married soon. Whenever she thinks about Do-Hyun, she can't stop smiling. During her middle and high school years Jung-Yeon was a quiet student with ordinary scores, but Do-Hyun appeared in front of her and they began a relationship. She is certain that Do-Hyun loves her. Jung-Yeon also has one thing that Do-Hyun does not have. That is a family.

A woman suddenly appears at Jae-su's house. Nothing in her hands, nowhere to go, the woman's empty eyes meet with round eyes of the eleven year-old boy. He regards the woman as another person who'll leave and does not put any effort into getting to know her. Every chance he finds, the boy scolds the woman, saying she eats too much, sleeps like a pig and uses up all of the utilities. Although at first unwillingly, Jo and Gong later become the best of sister/brother-in-law. They depend on each other for help, trouble, and fun. Oh Yuhn Soo, Jo's wife, is grateful at the happy relationship, but things go astray when Gong grows a greater affection for Jo. When Gong confesses her feelings for Jo, the two start to grow apart. Although they later end up in the same police department, they try hard to avoid eachother, and Oh starts to realize the reason why. Kim Rae Won is Gong's friend and the son of a rich hotel owner. Although he knows that Gong likes her brother-in-law, he never gives up his feelings for her. Things seem to turn out alright when Gong starts to date Kim and forget about Jo, but her sister Oh dies. The dangerous yet innocent love for her brother-in-law puts Gong in a terrible situation...how is love different in a family?

In a corner of the neigborhood electronic game room sits Kang-jae (Choi Min-Sik), the man bumming around with a cigarette butt in his mouth. His old friend from the heydays of ruling the backstreets has become boss of a crime organization while he was merely endowed with a small video shop for his contributions to organized crime. Even this meager business mostly constituted of selling porn videos to teenage delinquents is as unstable as his fighting skills.

The only time his mucous-ridden, bloodshot eyes brighten up is when he is sitting in front of the game machine...this is what makes him not just a browbeat but a 'third rate' browbeat.

An incident inadvertently forces Kang-jae to sign a life-risking contract with the boss of a major gang, a difficult decision but one that Kang-jae believed would help him return home triumphantly. Then out of the blue, he receives a letter.

"Kang-jae...thank you for everything. With your help, I've been able to continue working in Korea. Everyone here is so kind. But you are the kindest of them all. Because you have married me..."

After a brief moment of confusion, Kang-jae remembers the time when he went through a fake marriage for a few bucks. The warmth Kang-jae was feeling from the letter takes him into unfamiliar territory...
