The story takes place during the reign of Hong Taiji, the founder of Qing dynasty. He formed military alliances by marrying the daughters of Mongol and Manchu clans. He first married Jerger of Khorchin Mongols and made her his primary wife. Then, he renewed their alliance by marrying her niece Dayu'er. However, it was Dayu’ers low status half-sister, Harjol, he favored above the rest. His favoritism caused a rift between the women. Dayu'er formed a secret alliance with his brother Dorgon to place her son on the throne over his elder sons and brothers.

In order to avoid her mother meddling in her love life, Ye Xiao Bai joins a business project that strict boss Guan Yi He is running. The two end up falling in love and having a secret relationship because their workplace doesn't allow romance between colleagues. They end up marrying and establishing a family in secret, and Xiao Bai thinks life is going well, but the pressure of keeping their relationship a secret puts a strain on their family. Other problems arise both personally and professionally, opening Xiao Bai's eyes to the issues women face in the workplace and the struggle to balance work and family. The naive girl learns to be stronger, advancing at work and protecting her family and marriage.

Li Zhi Cheng is a former soldier who has been ordered to take over his family's business when business was going downhill. He has a fateful meeting with Lin Qian, an independent and capable white-collar who was freshly graduated and meeting difficulties in starting up her own business. The TV adaptation also shares the same setting and characters from the movie. The story centers around Wang Ying (Hawick Lau 劉愷威) and his love triangle with Tang princess, Li Jing (Ying Er 颖儿) and fox spirit, Xiaowei (Michelle Bai 白冰). When Princess Jing’s face becomes disfigured, she willingly exchanges her human heart with Xiaowei, foolishly believing that Wang Ying will love her again after she regains her beauty. Though it is a supernatural epic, the main theme will be love and the sacrifices involved.

Beijing, the present day. On the day they spontaneously divorce after being married for less than a month, magician Tao Xiaolei (Hawick Lau) and air hostess Zhou Jing (Mini Yang) hear they have won a free honeymoon down in Sanya, Hainan Island. Zhou Jing agrees to go, on condition they each do their own thing. At a drunken party Xiaolei bumps into an ex-girlfriend, Fang Meng (Chrissie Chau), and almost gets into a fight with a gangster type, Brother Bao (Michael Wang), who also claims to be her ex. Next morning Xiaolei and Fang Meng wake up in bed together, and Xiaolei receives a call saying that Zhou Jing has been kidnapped and will be killed unless he pays RMB1 million (US$150,000) within 48 hours. Xiaolei calls a Beijing friend, Sun Nuo (Lawrence Wang), manager of the bar at which he first met Xiaolei, to ask for a loan, but it's not enough. Meanwhile, Zhou Jing wakes up in a jungle treehouse in Jianfengling National Park and meets geeky botanist Bao Sanhe (Michael Wang), who is collecting samples. He offers to take her to safety but, when he can't find the way out, they end up spending the night in the jungle. At the same time, Fang Meng has been introducing Xiaolei to some gambling groups so he can use his card skills to win some money, but without success. Xiaolei refuses to ask the help of his wealthy father, Tao Dawei (Hugo Wu), who walked out on him and his mother, but eventually is forced to call him, and his father agrees to wire the money. However, the kidnapper then gives him a further 24 hours, even though he's ready to pay up, and just as Zhou Jing arrives back at the hotel she sees Xiaolei going off with Fang Meng - the continuation of a train of events that are not what they seem. 

Zhang Bai He and Li Ming Lang are both scions to successful conglomerates that are soon to be engaged. However on the night of their engagement a terrible arson occurs. As a result of the disaster Bai He loses her family while Ming Ling's mother wishes to cancel their marriage. Ming Lang disagrees and brings her home despite his mothers wishes, as they continue to co-habit their feelings towards each other grow steadily, however they must overcome the objections to their marriage and her scheming mother in law.

This is a story about the complicated life of Tong Xue, a young interior designer with a hidden secret life, living as an outcast mistress of Mo Shao Qian, a successful businessman who accommodated her with luxury living, showered her with expensive gifts, but also tortured her in a brutally battled love.

She always feared him, wishing and planning for the day, when she escapes away from his claws. However the moment he finally released her, it was too late for her to run free.
