On an autumn night in 1953, famous poet Baek Doo Hwan is killed in Namsan, Seoul. The next day, Investigator Kim Ki Chae visits the Oriental Cafe. He introduces himself as Master Sergeant of the Counter Intelligence Corps to those at the cafe. Kim Ki Chae begins to inquire if anyone there were involved in Baek Doo Hwan’s death.

The discovery of X-ray photographs of sexual intercourse causes trouble at a hospital. The hospital administration is more interested in who might be in the x-rays than who took them. A nurse, Yeo Yoon Young, is writing her resignation because she thinks it might be her, but when she arrives at the hospital no one else is there except the deputy. While this hospital commotion is going on, strange sinkholes start to appear in Seoul. Young laborers, including Yoon-young’s boyfriend, are mobilized to fill these sudden sinkholes.

A guerrilla army unit led by Captain Lee Myung Joon and 772 student soldiers, including Choi Sung Pil, are on the ship Moonsanho and their destination is Jangsari. Their mission is to deceive the North Koreans into thinking opposition forces would launch a decisive invasion there. The real invasion and battle will take place in Incheon one day later. The average age of the 772 student soldiers on the ship is 17 and they have had only 2 weeks of training. They try to land in Jangsari under a shower of bullets.

When a woman is kidnapped from a basement parking, she desperately tries to escape the eyes that are watching her.

While running a small beep soup restaurant, Park Sun Ja raised her three daughters Mi Sun, Mi Ri and Mi Hye alone. She still runs the restaurant to this day and her three daughters are now all grown up. Sun Ja's first daughter Mi Sun is married and she has a daughter. Mi Sun is busy working and taking care of her family. Second daughter Mi Ri cares about her mother a lot. She is confident in herself and good at her job. Mi Ri gets involved in a romantic relationship with her co-worker Tae Joo. He is the youngest son of the family that owns the company. The youngest daughter is Mi Hye. She used to be a promising novelist, but she is not any more. She helps her mother at the restaurant.

A man works for a big company although his dream is to run a chicken restaurant. A woman who lives at a bathhouse that her late grandfather left behind, only leaves her home when she absolutely has to. She wants to become a webtoon writer. These two meet and grow with each other.

Yoon-yeong has been harboring feelings for Song-hyeon, a friend’s wife. When he finds out that she is divorced, Yoon-yeong and Song-hyeon take a trip to Gunsan on a whim. They find lodging at an inn where the middle-aged owner lives with his autistic daughter who does not leave her room. The four become star-crossed lovers in the city of Gunsan.

Under the colonial rule of Japan, 400 or so Koreans who are conscripted into slave labor on 'The Battleship Island', attempt to escape for life. 1944, during the Japanese occupation of Korea, conscripted civilians head out to the Hashima island. Nicknamed 'The Battleship Island' after its resemblance to a war vessel, some are lured by false promises of high wages. LEE, a bandmaster of a jazz bigband and his only daughter, CHOI, a thug, and Mallyeon are among the workers. But upon arrival, they found that the island turns out to be an isolated hell where the workers are forced into slave labor. As the Pacific War nears its end, PARK, a Korean independence activist assigned on a mission to rescue a Korea's spiritual leader from the island. As the U.S. launches massive counterattack on Japan, the Japanese decided to blow up the island in order to bury the truth about their awful treatment of the Korean slave labors. PARK discovers the plan, and conspires with LEE and others for mass escape of all 400 Koreans.

At DMZ (De-militarized Zone) of the Korean peninsula, a group of military officers found missing or dead, brutally attacked. A special force unit of an elite squad is assigned to uncover the mysterious case in 24 hours. During the mission, officers get disappeared one by one, and they get a chilly feeling that they are being hunted by an unidentified enemy.

After the funeral, Hye Sook plans to return to the city. Gi Ju, a struggling writer, tries to drown himself at Andong lake but Taek Gyoo saves him. Hye Sook used to draw for Gi Ju's writings when they were young. The two were each other's first love and through the reunion, they are about to rekindle their old romance.

Nearly twenty years ago, Park Joon Pil is the son of a mafia boss. The mafia boss is being chased by the police but takes a day off to take his young son to the department store. Kang Tae Pyung's dad, a police officer, takes his wife and young son to an outing at the store also. At the department store, Tae Pyung's dad attempts to arrest Joon Pil's dad. Joon Jil's dad grabs Tae Pyung's mom as a hostage and accidentally kills her.

Tae Pyung's dad goes crazy and runs after Joon Pil's dad, thinking that he has taken his son also. Tae Pyung's dad kills Joon Pil's dad but realizes too late that the little boy by Joon Pil's dad is not his son, but the criminal's. However, Kang Tae Pyung's dad is killed as well, and both the small boys become orphans.

A fellow police officer takes in Joon Pil as his own son, thinking that the little boy is Tae Pyung. Tae Pyung, however, is taken into an orphan home. Joon Pil knows he is a criminal's son. Twenty years later, Joon Pil is an aspiring young police officer and Tae Pyung is a boxing bum. When Tae Pyung's best friend becomes unfairly murdered, he vows to become a police officer. Two years later, Joon Pil and Tae Pyung finally meet again. Rivals but friends at heart, these two guys learn to forgive the past and embrace the future.

Although at first unwillingly, Jo and Gong later become the best of sister/brother-in-law. They depend on each other for help, trouble, and fun. Oh Yuhn Soo, Jo's wife, is grateful at the happy relationship, but things go astray when Gong grows a greater affection for Jo. When Gong confesses her feelings for Jo, the two start to grow apart. Although they later end up in the same police department, they try hard to avoid eachother, and Oh starts to realize the reason why. Kim Rae Won is Gong's friend and the son of a rich hotel owner. Although he knows that Gong likes her brother-in-law, he never gives up his feelings for her. Things seem to turn out alright when Gong starts to date Kim and forget about Jo, but her sister Oh dies. The dangerous yet innocent love for her brother-in-law puts Gong in a terrible situation...how is love different in a family?

Jin Young, a very open-minded and energetic woman, worked for the Seoul Hotel. Her ex-boyfriend Tae Joon resigned and had left for Vegas three years earlier due to an unfortunate incident w/ a guest. The owner of the hotel had always believed in Tae Joon even more so than his own son, Young Jae. When he died of a heart attack, his wife realized that Jin Young must go to Vegas to bring Tae Joon back so he could help run the hotel, which was falling into pieces. Their rival, Kim Book Man (Han Jin Hee), was determined to acquire the Seoul Hotel.
