Kurosawa, who works for a film production company, meets Akiko, a divorcee and single mother, who works at a publishing house. When Koichi was nine years old, his father was accused of killing his mother and younger sibling, before committing suicide. In reality, Koichi's father was framed, and Koichi saw the person who killed his family. However, the police didn't believe his testimony, and his relatives called him a liar. He never gave up his story, though, and so grew up with the nickname "Usotsuki" (Liar).

Eventually, Koichi moved overseas and changed his name, becoming a professional swindler. One day, Koichi finally meets his family's killer again. He then returns to Japan to take his revenge.

Eiryo Waga (Masahiro Nakai) is well-known musician. As a composer and pianist, he has begun a rapid climb to stardom. But he must keep his terrible past a secret. One day someone who knows all about his past, Kenichi Miki (Hidekazu Akai), appears before him. In order to protect the fame he has obtained, Waga kills Miki. Immediately after that, Waga runs into Asami Naruse (Yasuko Matsuyuki). He manages to pull himself together and leave the scene. An investigation team is established led by two detectives Shuichiro Imanishi (Ken Watanabe) and Masaya Yoshimura (Masaru Nagai), but they have difficulty making any headway. Meanwhile, by coincidence Waga bumps into Asami again. Asami is a stage actress has her own dark past. Soon the two fall in love. But Waga is already engaged to Ayaka Tadokoro (Kotomi Kyono). It was with her father's help that Waga began his ascent to the top of the music world. It looks like Waga's ambitions are about to confront reality...

15 years have passed since Haibara Tatsuyuki (Nakai Masahiro) started working for the finance company, Teikoku Financing. The company president, Kaneko Takatoshi, passed away five years earlier and now Takayama Kazuo (Watabiki Katsuhiko) is in charge of Teikoku Financing. Haibara goes around with his senior, Kuwata Sumio (Kobayashi Kaoru), to collect debts every day. The law regarding debt collection has changed and the regulations for moneylenders have been strengthened. Many finance companies have gone bankrupt or ceased business. During this period, Teikoku Finance practically buys unsettled debts. One day, Kuwata and Haibara visit Magonote Construction’s president, Magonote Kenzo (Saito Yosuke), one of the debts bought over, in order to collect his debt. Not only the promissory note but also land mortgage which has been pledged as collateral are Teikoku Financing’s. Magonote and his daughter, Yoko (Renbutsu Misako), insist that the land cannot be handed over when pressed by the two to immediately pay back the debt by selling the land. That land is a place with memories of Magonote’s late wife and Yoko’s mother. Despite a promise to settle the debt one week later, father and daughter have no means to do so. Dotsubo Financing’s advertisement catches the attention of Yoko, and she knocks on its door. Led by company president Dotsubo Kyoichi (Yusuke Santamaria), Dotsubo Financing inspires Yoko with something backhand in order to settle the debt. Dotsubo Financing’s ploy checks Teikoku Financing’s in its course, but in the end, Yoko is pushed further to the edge. Unable to forsake Yoko who has no way out, Haibara does not even listen to the voices of those around him who tell him to stop, and works on repaying her debt.

Ataru, who suffers from "savant syndrome," has the power to discover, observe, see through, and deduct microscopic evidence of unsolved cases. Why does he always go to the criminal sites? What explains his strange behavior? His sad past will be revealed as the story unfolds. An explosion occurs at a chemical factory, leaving one person dead. The investigation team concludes that it is merely an accident, but Ebina Maiko has her doubts. When she goes to the site again, she finds a man who introduces himself as "Chokozai." After blurting out a series of words that Maiko cannot understand, he suddenly falls asleep. Maiko decides to look up the meaning of these words. She is taken aback when she discovers that when put together, these words provide the key to solving the case.

A mystery unfolds with a woman named Madoka (Maki Horikita), who is a killer, and Ataru (Masahiro Nakai). The woman possesses the same extraordinary memory and deductive reasoning abilities as Ataru.

A story of two men who decide to commit a perfect murder, and also a story of cops and relatives trying to decipher who the real murderer is.

Nobuko Shimura is on duty for the first time at Gyoda Hospital. The duty doctor is Yosuke Naoe. After 9pm, Jiro Toda, a childhood friend of Nobuko's, is brought in with a cut to his forehead from a fight. But Naoe has gone out for a drink, and can't be found. Both Toda and the ambulance crew become angry and demand to know where the doctor is. Naoe returns and seeing the commotion, he orders Toda be locked in a toilet until he calms down. Nobuko is horrified by Naoe' s attitude but is later impressed with his ability as a surgeon when treating Toda's injury. This is their first fateful meeting.

A man who appears to have no particular passion for anything ironically proves effective with troubled high school students. Known as a legendary savior of problem schools, he shows up one day to salvage what's left of a class that had fallen apart completely. His highly unpredictable reactions and controversial advice to students shock the teachers and staffs much as they do the problem students themselves.

After graduating from college, Yuuji lands the job of his dreams at the company that manufactures his favorite running shoes. The complete sincerity and selflessness that Yuuji shows everyone he meets causes many to dismiss him as naive or simply stupid.
