Mei was a legendary witch and also part of a legendary brave group. The brave group defeated Satan, as it tried to engulf the world with its dark power. Satan was sealed off and the world became peaceful again.

Now, Mei is a housewife and she struggles to raise her baby child. Her days are otherwise peaceful and ordinary, but Mei hears that Satan has been unsealed and is revived.

Saigo Takamori, the hero of the Meiji Restoration, was born to a poor, low-ranking samurai family in the Satsuma domain (present day Kagoshima Prefecture). His simple honesty caught the attention of its charismatic feudal lord of Satsuma, Shimazu Nariakira. Nariakira’s assertion that the love of people is what will enrich and strengthen the nation captivated Saigo who took on Nariakira’s secret mission and eventually became a key person for Satsuma. Not a portrait of him survives today and much of his life is a mystery. He is a man who was twice exiled and thrice married. He overthrew the Tokugawa Shogunate with exceptional bravery and action. Although he accomplished the restoration, he lost his life in a fight with the new Meiji government.

On Oriyama Karin’s 16th birthday, she receives a present from her rich parents. Her present is marriage. The person she marries is her crush and high school senior Tsurugi Nao who is popular. Debt ridden Nao only marries Karin for economic reasons and in particular the wealth of her parents. Karin loves him truly, but Nao doesn't love her at all.

Their marriage is a secret, but Ebina Isuzu, Karin's friend, holds feelings for Karin, learns of their marriage.

Kanbe Takeru chooses to remain in the Special Missions Division, but he seems to continue to keep a distance from his direct superior, Sugishita Ukyo. One day, the dead body of the popular female novelist, Mizumoto Shoko, is found in her own home. The possibility of murder fuelled by a grudge is high from the situation at the crime scene, and a male stalker emerges in the line of investigation. However, Ukyo focuses his attention on a missing section from a document package for a new book that Shoko was working on. It is eventually determined that Shoko was attempting to write a novel with an environmental theme which is completely different from her style of writing so far. Ukyo and Kanbe try to get information from the employees at a trading conglomerate that Shoko had interviewed.
