A female high school student named Sayaka kills herself, but the reason why she killed herself is unknown. Sayaka appeared to have a normal life with her family, including her mother Rumiko. When it's time to eat at the funeral, Rintaro, Miyako and other relatives are embarrassed at the table, because there isn't anything there. Akiko then tells them that cooking by herself at her husband's funeral was on his will. The first meal is then served, which is fried eggs. Rintaro realizes the fried eggs tastes just like what his father made for them.

Kousaku Aizawa left the hospital emergency room. He now works as a brain surgeon. Megumi Shiraishi works hard as a staff leader for flight doctors at a hospital emergency room. Kazuo Fuikawa works as a emergency physician specializing in orthopedics and works with Megumi Shiraishi. Haruka Saejima still works as a nurse for flight doctors.

Asahiyama Zoo in Hokkaido is the northernmost zoo in Japan. It was once in danger of being shut down but overcame this crisis. The leader of the zookeepers, Sakauchi Zen (Yamaguchi Tomomitsu), has become the zoo’s director. He works hard towards the construction of a new giraffe enclosure. On the other hand, the zookeepers Izumi Sawako (Toda Erika) and Nakagawa Shinichi (Koide Keisuke) privately have worries while being swamped with their job of raising animals. Sawako, who is in charge of the popular red pandas, sees signs of a pregnancy, but cannot feel genuinely happy. Having been present at the deaths of animals countless times in the past, she has developed a fear of witnessing the life and death of animals. Nakagawa, who has been appointed the leader of the breeding staff, even has strong ideas about the current state of the zoo. A part of him cannot agree with Sakauchi on the construction of the giraffe enclosure too. Veteran zookeeper, Makihara Yuichiro (Ito Shiro), who has known the zoo since the time it opened, cannot make up his mind about his own retirement. To compound matters, a flamingo escapes from the zoo. Sakauchi sets a trap which makes use of the flamingo’s behaviour, but the flamingo is killed by a wild fox. Nakagawa opposes Sakauchi’s decision which sacrificed an animal. Confidence in the zoo also plummets. Meanwhile, Okamura Tetsu (Joshima Shigeru), who has been an elementary school janitor for many years, comes as a zookeeper in a personnel reshuffle. Poor with both people and animals, Okamura is given the task to rear the zoo’s oldest animal, the hippopotamus, by Sakauchi. Okamura is uncomfortable with a job which does not have a manual. However, he takes Makihara’s advice and gradually becomes concerned about the hippopotamus more than anyone else. The new enclosure is completed. A young hippopotamus also arrives. The story is set in the late Edo period when the divorce rate was two times higher than the present.

In the feudal Japanese society, men could easily divorce their wives whereas wives had great difficulty to exercise the same act. Many women found solace at a women’s Buddhist temple in Kamakura named Tokei-ji, where, after two years of servitude, their husbands were forced to sign divorce papers. The three inns located in the area beneath the temple functioned as the front offices, with Tokei-ji accepting only women who have been approved by them first.

The year is 1841. Tokugawa Shogunate has issued sumptuary regulations as part of Tempo reforms, making the lives of common people even worse. Nakamura Shinjiro is a literary writer and doctor-in-training, residing in Edo. In light of the recent events, Shinjiro escaped to an inn at Tokei-ji temple which is run by his aunt, Kashiwaya Genbei.

Jogo is aiming for Tokei-ji in search of a divorce from her abusive husband who is exploiting her for the family business. Half a year after Enomoto Kei’s (Ohno Satoshi) disappearance, Serizawa Go (Sato Koichi) and Aoto Junko (Toda Erika) have been going about their regular law practice.

At this point, Serizawa’s client Fujibayashi (Kurobe Susumu), the chairman of a securities company, is bludgeoned to death.

Furthermore, it is Serizawa and Fujibayashi’s niece Ikuko (Kuroki Hitomi) who discover the dead body. Asked about his relationship with Fujibayashi by the detective Kouno (Ukaji Takashi), Serizawa discloses that he was arranging the donation of Fujibayashi’s late wife’s collection of paintings worth an estimated 1 billion yen to an art museum. About a month later, the elderly Asatsuma (Toji Takao) comes to the law firm accompanied by the caretaker of his apartment building Kohiyama (Okada Yoshinori). Asatsuma tells Junko who attends to him that he wishes to find the person who saved his life when he collapsed from a heart attack.

His saviour came to the apartment where he had collapsed, gave him first aid and vanished after calling 119. At the same moment, Serizawa is meeting Ikuko. Although Fujibayashi’s murderer has not been caught, Serizawa would like to proceed with the donation. But Ikuko asks him to halt it. She attests that this was what her uncle had said he wanted the day before he was killed. On another day, Junko is making inquiries with the residents of Asatsuma’s apartment building when a man comes, led by Kohiyama. He is Enomoto. He tells Junko that he has been called to install a new security camera and is taken to Asatsuma’s apartment. After that, Serizawa makes Ikuko have a face to face meeting with Hiramatsu (Sano Shiro), the director of the art museum which was to have been the recipient. The moment Hiramatsu hears that the donation has been called off, his expression hardens. At that moment, Enomoto and Junko meet a famous artist Inaba Toru (Fujiki Naohito) who is working on a piece for an exhibition. Inaba has created a mock amusement park house of mirrors and the work of art has been mounted in it...

The chain of flowers between Rinka, Miyuki and Satsuki become connected as secrets become revealed.

Rinka (Nao Matsushita) lost her parents 13 years ago in an accident. Since then, she has lived with her grandmother. Her grandmother is then diagnosed with stomach cancer and becomes hospitalized. Kazuya's dream was to become an architect, but he now works in the sales department for an architect firm run by his wife's cousin Yosuke. Kazuya then participates in a competition to design an art gallery. Kazuya wins the competition, but Yosuke placed his name on Kazuya's design.

After Miyuki complains to Yosuke about his actions, Kazuya tells her something that has been on his mind. This causes tragedy.

University student Satsuki (Erika Toda) joins a climbing club with her friend Kimiko. Satsuki falls in love with Koichi who is in the same club. When Satsuki views Kocihi as part of her fate, Kurata, from the climbing club, collapses from leukemia.

Satsuki and Koichi take a test of their white blood cells. Satsuki finds out that she has the same white blood cell forms as Kocihi. A shocking hidden truth is reveled.
