In the year of 1926, Mu Wanqing brings her mom's ashes back to China burial. On the pretense of surrendering to her father, Mu Wanqing has an actual motive in finding the true reason why her parents separated and her siblings died.

Meanwhile, a coup d'état occurs among the Shanghai army, and the once oppressed Tan Xuanlin rose up to become the new commander of troops. However despite his new authority, he still finds himself walking on thin ice. Xu Guangyao, the son of the Commander of Yue Cheng, is a man revered and admired by many. However, he dislikes the power struggles within the political field.

A chance encounter lets Mu Wanqing, Tan Xuanlin and Xu Guangyao meet and befriend each other. In order to secure her foothold within the Mu family, Mu Wanqing intentionally gets close to Xu Guangyao and have his backing. Meanwhile, Tan Xuanlin works alongside Mu Wanqing to investigate an old case that is related to the Mu family. The three of them goes through life-and-death struggles together, and eventually realizes the importance of protecting the country in the tumultuous times.

A story that follows Nalan Yue, a man with two identities. He falls for the bold Rong Hua, a young maiden with a good heart yet their ties are deeper and more complicated due to the generation before them.

To support her father Rong Jingfeng in his efforts to help others, Rong Hua travels far and wide in search of the missing healing tool known as Chi Hua Zhu. However, the journey is treacherous. She falls into danger many times and gets rescued by Nalan Yue.

Unbeknownst to them, their families are caught in an intricate web of revenge and hate. Falling for each other at first sight, they decide to use their sincerity to convince the older generation to let go of the hatred in their hearts but a plan to once again hurt the Nalan clan is set in motion. At the same time, Nalan Yue is forced to become the successor of a demonic martial arts technique. Believing that Nalan Yue can overcome his inner demons, Rong Hua continues to stay by his side.

Summary: A period drama based on a famous Chinese classical novel, The Legend and The Hero blends history and fantasy into one splendid TV series with help of new CG technologies. Steve Ma Jing Tao, famous for his various roles as ancient heroes, teams up with Mainland Chinese beauty Fan Bingbing (who has starred alongside Andy Lau in Battle of Wits). Giving a twist to the original story, Emperor Zhou (Steve Ma) is no longer a tyrant, and Da Ji (Fan Bingbing), not a wicked concubine. She seduces the Emperor only to fulfill her mission assigned by the heavenly god. Emperor Zhou falls in love with the gorgeous Da Ji, and he even threatens to attack her hometown in order to make her one of his concubines. A group consists of both mortals and immortals are recruited by the benevolent Heavenly Goddess to battle the mortal King, who is possessed by the Demon. Thus begins a sprawling war between the good and evil. With plenty of special effects and battle sequences, The Legend and the Hero is an exciting retelling of one of China's best folklore legends.

This drama focuses on the earlier days of the legendary Yang Clan when most of them were not yet soldiers. It tells of how their parents, their enemies, and the women they loved shaped their characters, influenced their lives, and motivated them to become the patriotic warriors their clan is revered for.
