A widowed taxi driver raises his young daughter alone and works hard to pay back the hospital bills left behind by his late wife. One day, he hears that a foreigner is willing to pay a large sum for a drive from Seoul to Gwangju city and back. Not knowing that the foreigner was a German journalist, he takes the job and sets off on a journey together.

When a letter and cassette tape from 23 years ago show up at a radio station, the radio DJ and his old friends reminisce on the bittersweet summer they last spent together as kids. Every summer, Soo Ok patiently waits for her friends Beom Sil, San Dol, Gae Deok, and Gil Ja to arrive back to their home town island. This summer is filled with fun, romance, and tragedy.

Set during the Korean War and 3 days before a truce takes place. Nam-Bok is a South Korean soldier who was a simple farmer before his conscription into the military. The next day, Chang Shik and Mi Young both notice a sign offering a 5-million-won award for an eyewitness to the hit and run incident! They get a lot more than they bargained for.

As a fusion drama on the life of politician Kim Doo Han, the drama tells the life of Kim Doo Han with fact and fiction. Kim Doon Han is the son of the great general Kim Jwah Jin, who fought for Korea against the Japanese during World War II. After his dad dies, Kim Doo Han trains in kung pao and learns to be a leader against the evil Japanese. He finds his own position as boss of the Jong Ro area in Seoul, and vows to protect his own Korean people. Goo Ma Juk, the boss of Seoul, fights against Kim Doo Han in an attempt to hand over the whole Seoul area to the Japanese redevelopment project, pursued by Hyashi. Hyashi himself is a Korean but he ironically lives as a Japanese fighting his own people. Through these many barriers, Kim Doo Han struggles to keep the Korean culture alive, later on becoming a politician after the Korean War.

Five girlfriends in their early twenties live in the dingy port town of Incheon. A close-knit circle in high school, their paths begin to diverge as they step into the adult world.

At the center of the group is the beautiful and vain Hae-joo, who dreams of becoming a successful career woman. She leaves Incheon for an apartment in Seoul and a junior position with a brokerage firm.

The other girls are left behind in a state of solitude and unease; Tae-hee works for free for her parents and takes dictation from a poet suffering from cerebral palsy and Ji-young seeks a job, while caring for her grandparents in their dilapidated apartment. The twins Bi-ryu and Ohn-jo buffer themselves from change with constant togetherness.

The cellular phones ring as the girls coordinate their meetings. A lost cat, Tee tee, enters the lives of these young women, passing from one owner to the next as circumstances pull lives and friends apart and others together.

The drama is about the life of the last Korean empress, Empress Myung Sung.
