There is a saying that goes like this, "The endless night is coming and chaos will descend the human world." Ning Que (Arthur Chen) is a soldier who travels to the capital with his servant Sang Sang (Song Yiren) to seek justice for the untimely deaths of his entire family. Through his determination and hard work, Ning Que earns a spot at a prestigious academy. He becomes the headmaster's treasured disciple, thus bringing him closer to clearing his family's name.

Sang Sang suffers from a strange illness. When Ning Que takes her to the doctor, they learn that Sang Sang is the bringer of the fearsome endless night which could spell the destruction of humanity. The revelation turns them into fugitives overnight. In order to protect Sang Sang, Ning Que escapes with her and starts an adventure into the unknown.
