High school student Shinichi Kudo (Junpei Mizobata) and childhood friend Ran Mouri (Shiori Kutsuna) are private detectives.

Right after they leave a nail salon on the first floor of a mansion they hear a man screaming. When Shinichi and Ran arrive there, cameraman Yuhei Tsubouchi (Akira) and an assistant lie on the ground bleeding. The owner of the house and model Momoko Aida are dead.

The investigation begins. The cameraman's assistant testifies that he was by an iron-bar by a man who came from another room. Yuhei, who is Momoko's brother-in-law, asks the detectives to catch the criminal. A puzzling aspect about the case is that the criminal used an iron-bar, but the model was strangled to death. Can Shinichi uncover the truth?

Ching Wai (Chow Yun-fat) is a fresh graduate from university, and is hired by a jewelry company called Yu-Fook, and he rises up the career ladder quickly, due to his superb performance, and he forges a relationship with the Director's daughter, Fong Hei-man (Carol Cheng). The story continues smoothly, until an incident occurs. To pay his mother's (Tang Pik-wan) gambling debts, he embezzles company funds and is reported by the cunning Yuen Kei-cheung (Lee Tao-hung). Ching is sent to prison, where he meets and befriends a gangster chief Lung Koon-sam (Shih Kien), who helps him both in and out of prison. Ching gets a job at another jewelry company, and collaborates with Lung to expose Yuen's wrongdoings. Eventually, Yuen is caught, and Ching proposes to Fong. Ching Chan (Liu Wai-hung), is also another main character. Known as Ah Chan, he is an idle immigrant from the Mainland. He is forced to care for the Chings when Ching Wai is sent to prison. Unfortunately, Ching Chan commits a crime and is jailed, but manages to forge a family with his love Cheung Mei-po (Kong Ho-oi)

In 1999, a meteor fell to Earth and obliterated the Shibuya district of Tokyo. Along with the destruction the meteor brought something far more dangerous: the Worm, an insectoid race of aliens with the ability to perfectly mimic the appearance and memories of a human. Seven years later, the Worm have infiltrated society and are slowly killing off the human race, replacing them with their own. Earth's only defence lies in the secret organization ZECT, who are losing ground against the evolved Worm and their Clock Up ability. To counter this, ZECT develops the Masked Rider System and Kabuto Zecter weapons, which new recruit Kagami Arata is eager to try out. Enter Tendou Souji: genius chef, philosopher, loving brother, martial arts expert and all-round Ace at everything he does (also, kind of a dick). During a Worm attack, Kagami calls out for the Kabuto Zecter but instead it goes to Tendou, who proclaims that he is The Chosen One and uses it to transform into Kamen Rider Kabuto.

Fan Tung (Liu Kai Chi) is one of the four deities under the Stove God. He has offended the Queen Mother of the West of being ravenous and gets imprisoned for 500 years in the winter melon. By chance Tin Tai Kwai (Sunny Chan) and his wife Chung Pik Yuk (Louisa So) free him from constraint. Tung has crashed with Tai Kwai's older brother Tin Tai Fu accidentally and his spirit enters Tai Fu's body inexplicably while losing all his instincts. Tung starts living in Kwai's house and gets closer to the family. Yuk finds Tung suspicious and she tries to unmask him by all means. Having failed in his attempt to return to Heaven, Tung becomes reliant on the help of six little deities who assimilated his instincts released from the melon, and since then Tung is aware of the fickleness of human nature. One day, Fu's truant wife Ling Fung (Rain Lau) suddenly returns. She ruins everything and even causes the death of Tai Kwai. In order to get his life back, Tung illicitly breaks into the netherworld. --Astro on Demand
