People don't have to go through the trouble of looking for someone, and everyone accepts that the country will find a compatible partner to make them happy

Young Do, whose father was a merciless murderer, had to endure being called ‘monster’ ever since he was a child. His father’s dark shadow is constantly drawn over him despite his death by execution. Young Do vindictively lashes out to those calling him a monster, slowly becoming one himself. One day, a mysterious woman with a child shows up at Young Do’s house, claiming his father murdered her parents. When she demands his heart, Young Do points a knife at his chest, daring her to stab him. He eventually fails to kick the woman and her child out of his house, and adding to this, he learns of a secret of hers.

Up-tight salaryman Asakura (Shinichi Tsutsumi) goes to the doctor about his severe tension headaches, but gets car-jacked by bank robbers, who order him to pursue one of the gang that has betrayed them. Unfortunately, Asakura never breaks the rules, won't drive over the speed limit, or run a red light, even if threatened. The frustrated gang stops at a café to make plans, but word is out about their "successful" robbery, and "karmic fate" begins to unfold.

The sequel picks up three years after the events of the first episode. This time the energetic group gets caught up with a fight.

A young yakuza, Yatappe, wanders around the country in search of his long-lost little sister, Oito. While traveling, he rescues a young girl, Osayo, whose father entrusts her to him with his dying wish. To honor his promise to Osayo's deceased father, Yatappe brings her to safety, and from a distance keeps a watchful eye on her well being.

Working as a prostitute since she was 16, Kam (Sandra Ng) has witnessed the highs and lows of Hong Kong over the decades. Kam is now a "madam" who manages a stable of high-end prostitutes, entertaining and hosting parties for rich men. She has seen it all. On the surface she embraces the prosperity of the "New HK" but like countless middle-class HK citizens, she laments the loss of the old Hong Kong that once belonged to the people. Over the hill mob boss, Gordon (Nick Cheung), was put behind bars before the Hong Kong Handover in 1997. Gordon's appearance and mindset are still stuck in the colonial past. Recently released from prison, he is unable to cope with the New Hong Kong. His sole source of solace is his old flame, Kam.
