Based on a supposed true story, the film stars Yamada Takayuki (from Water Boys and Crying Out Love in the Center of the World) as a twentysomething computer nerd who goes by the chat room screen named "Densha Otoko" ("Train Man"wink.gif. Out of nowhere, he soon finds himself in an unfamiliar role as "protector" when he ends up saving a woman from the advances of a drunken salaryman (Osugi Ren) on a commuter train. Miki Nakatani (from Ring 2) takes on the role of a beautiful office lady who eventually takes a slight interest in this socially-inept otaku. A complete moron when it comes to the ladies, this young computer freak would rather stay in his fantasy land of anime, manga, toys, and computer games than face the real world. Thus, when faced with the proposition of dating this new woman, he turns to the anonymous chatroom pals for support, asking for tips on what just exactly he should do to win this woman's heart. Densha Otoko is ultimately a nice guy, but for whatever reason, things just haven't happened for him yet in the romance department. Despite his shyness, he's definitely looking to make some changes in his personal life. But will their advice pay off? Can there be chemistry between these two vastly different people? Three days before the high school entrance ceremony, Tanaka Masayuki, who had been active in basketball during junior high school, participates in an away game for Hikawa High School’s basketball club which he is set to join. But he suddenly collapses at the venue of the match and loses consciousness. Masayuki is hurried to a hospital. The doctor Miyazaki Hiromichi diagnoses brain haemorrhage due to cerebral arteriovenous malformation. Although his life is saved by an emergency surgery, he remains in a coma for several days. When Masayuki finally wakes up, the right side of his body is paralysed. It is a difficult reality for him to accept. He deflates after hearing Miyazaki say it will be tough for him to play basketball as he had done in the past. A year later, Masayuki finally starts high school life one year later and also develops bonds with his teammates, classmates and schoolmates. Even though Masayuki is not able to participate in matches, he becomes indispensable to Hikawa High School’s basketball team because of the precise instructions he gives from the bench. Will Masayuki be able to make his comeback to the court?

Momoko is 75-years-old and lives alone. In 1964, Momoko came by herself to Tokyo from her hometown. She met Shuzo and married him. They raised two children together, but Shuzo suddenly passes away. Momoko is dumbfounded by being alone again. She begins to go to the library and borrows books. This changes her life.

A housewife named Rika Umezawa gets a part-time job at a bank in which she’s responsible for traveling to customers’ homes and collecting their deposits. In spite of receiving positive evaluations from her boss and customers alike for her courteousness and work ethic, she begins to feel a void in her life. Her husband seems to be losing interest in her and the two of them have been gradually drifting apart.

Soon, she engages in an affair with a university student named Kota and begins embezzling money from the bank customers’ deposits she’s responsible for collecting. As she spends more time with Kota and away from her husband, her theft escalates rapidly in order to fund her trysts as well as her newfound addiction to shopping.
