Sanae, who went to prison after failing to kill her ex-boyfriend six years ago, meets Kenta, a forest ranger, and gets married. The film generates a respectable amount of suspense, thanks to the superb cinematography and editing. It takes a few unexpected turns while covering a familiar territory.

Set in Busan, South Korea during the 1970's, Lee Doo-Sam works for a group who become involved in smuggling high priced items like gold and watches. The government then implements a crackdown. Lee Doo-Sam becomes the scapegoat for his boss and serves time in prison. When he is released, Lee Doo-Sam jumps into the business of manufacturing and distributing methamphetamine. At a party, he meets lobbyist Kim Jung-A who has connections with powerful people. Kim Jung-A joins Lee Doo-Sam’s business venture. Lee Doo-Sam makes incredible profits, but he becomes restless and gets addicted to methamphetamine.

Meanwhile, Prosecutor Kim In-Goo is transferred to the Busan Prosecutors' Office. While investigating a drug case, he notices Lee Doo-Sam. He targets Lee Doo-Sam and the powerful people who took bribes from him.

Based on the Japanese Invasion, a drug king sells drugs to China and Japan and uses the money on Joseon Independence movement.

This horror anthology takes its cue from the short fiction of writer Taro Hirai, better known by his nomme du plume Edogawa Rampo - wordplay on the name of legendary writer Edgar Allan Poe. Acclaimed MV director Takeuchi Suguru begins proceedings with Mars Canal, which sees a naked man (Asano Tadanobu) collapse at the edge of a lake that descends, seemingly into the bowels of hell itself. This segment is used to effectively tie together the three main narrative segments of the film. Mirror Hell, directed by Jissoji Akio, sees a detective (Asano again) following a trail of beautiful female corpses back to a mad mirror maker. The Caterpillar (by Sato Hisayasu) sees a limbless war veteran return home only to be systematically abused by his wife. And in Crawling Bugs, by manga artist Kaneko Atsushi, a chauffeur (Asano yet again) becomes obsessed with his actress employer.

It’s a tragic case of history repeating as two cases twenty years apart find their connections in people who were abandoned by their parents. The story begins in recent times with Sergeant Fai, a grizzled cop who is on the verge of retirement. We are taken to 1997 and meet 15 year-old Elisa, an innocent and naïve girl who has fallen in love with Wai, a decent guy with a motorbike and few prospects. Elisa soon gives birth to a baby girl after the two move in together but life isn’t easy. Desperate to earn money, Wai becomes a member of the triads and commits a crime so serious he must flee Hong Kong and leave Elisa and their daughter behind to face the cruelty of society alone. When Wai returns he finds he cannot be a permanent part of their lives and their once happy family is poisoned by resentment which leads to a tragic outcome...
