Set during the Edo Period, "Sword of Desperation" tells the unforgettable story of swordsman Kanemi Sanzawmon. Three years ago, Kanemi Sanzawmon killed Renko, the mistress of the powerful daimyo Tabu Ukyou and a woman causing corruption. Unexpectedly, Kanemi Sanzawon received a lenient punishment and was able to return to his clan in only one year. After the death of his wife Mutsue, Kanemi Sanzawon lives with and takes care of Mutsue's niece Satoo. Kanemi is unaware of Satoo's secret affections for him, but she is able to change his outlook on life. Meanwhile, Kanemi Sanzawon's unique "bird-catching" sword fighting technique will be tested when he must battle Hayatonosho Obiya.

Dong Goo, a lowlife thug, has always been living a hopelessly miserable life. One day, he accidentally obtains a bankbook with such a large amount of money as much as one billion won. He travels down to Busan in order to try to obtain the PIN number for the bank account. As Dong Goo meets the eight-year-old boy, Bok Gi, who believes Dong Goo is his dad, and the boy’s mother, Ae Sook in Busan, their story begins.

One day Osomatsu meets an elderly gentleman who tells him a story about his son, who he lost in an accident. Coincidentally, Osomatsu looks similar to the deceased son, and so the gentleman wishes to adopt him. The man turns out to be the CEO of a big company, and, after overhearing the conversation, the rest of the sextuplets deicide to get into a fight with Osomatsu to decide who will become the heir. Later on, the story takes a sudden, unexpected twist as three strange men dressed in black show up.

A colorful story that takes place between the coastal area and the big city is woven into the lives of a left-behind youth, his father who has not returned for many years, a young woman, her older brother, and their RSZ motorcycle team.

The film mainly tells the security team leader Guo Yuanchao and member Cao Xinyi who are preparing for the wedding. The story closely follows key events of the Xinhai Revolution, with focus on Huang Xing and Sun Yat-sen, beginning with the Wuchang Uprising of 1911, from the Second Guangzhou Uprising (on 27 April 1911) through military engagements between revolutionary and Qing Dynasty forces, the deaths of the 72 martyrs, and scenes of political-economic manoeuvring, to the election of Sun Yat-sen as provisional president of the new Provisional Republic of China, followed by news of the abdication of the last Qing emperor Puyi (signed on his behalf by Empress Dowager Longyu) on 12 February 1912, when Sun Yat-sen stepped down and Yuan Shikai became the new provisional president in Beijing on 10 March 1912.
