Miyuki, a single mother and nursery teacher, meets Sri Lankan Kumara while visiting Tohoku as a disaster volunteer. A year later, the two of them who fulfilled a fateful reunion are gradually attracted to each other. Straightforward and charming, Kumara quickly becomes friends with Miyuki's daughter, Maya, and eventually, the three begin to live together like a family. Miyuki and Kumara exchange promises of marriage, but it is short-lived happiness.

Shortly after submitting her marriage registration and officially becoming a couple, Kumara is questioned by the police and placed in an immigration facility and ordered to be deported to her home country for overstaying. Kumara and Miyuki are in despair after being suspected of a fake marriage at the oral hearing. Visitation at the immigration office is only for 30 minutes through an acrylic board.

Miyuki and Maya are overwhelmed with anger at the unreasonable response and frustration that they can't help, but they visit lawyer Megumi Koichiro with a little hope. The only way to save Kumara is to file a lawsuit, win over the judgment, and obtain special permission to stay. He just wants to live with his family of three... He keeps a small wish in his heart and challenges the battle against the country.

Daisuke Manpyo is the owner and president of the successful Hanshin Bank. He also owns several other companies and some real estate. His son-in-law is a bureaucrat at the Ministry of the Treasury, who tips him off that there is a move afoot to reorganize commercial banks. Manpyo is in for difficult times as he attempts to block the merger between his bank and another.

Hakuro's father died when he was a child allowing his mother to re-marry into the wealthy Yagami family. Although Hakuro was also welcomed, he struggles to feel a part of this family. His younger half-brother, who possesses the same blood as him, has fared much better. After the death of his mother, Hakuro dropped the Yagami surname and parted ways with the family.

Hakuro, now a veterinarian, has a strong sense of justice, is sincere and has a weakness for beautiful women. One day, he is approached by such a woman, claiming she is the wife of his half-brother. She worriedly informs him that his half-brother has gone missing, leading the pair to team up and find his whereabouts.

In the process, Hakuro finds himself reluctantly embroiled in the Yagami family's battle over one sizeable inheritance. Could his half-brother's mysterious disappearance be connected?

Tamura Shin is a young man who has been pursuing the mystery of the murder that his father, a police officer, caused and changed the fate of their family. Ever since his father’s arrest, Shin and his mother have been criticised by the public and had to live in hiding. However, when he heads to the old crime scene, he is shrouded by a sudden mist and ends up going back in time to the past. Shin finds himself in the year 1989 – right before the murder took place. The crime scene has become a snowy village. At this village, Shin sees the warm smiling faces of his own face. If he stops his father’s case, he will not lose his family. This spurs him to challenge the taboo of changing the past.

It is the autumn of 2019, one year since Miyamoto Akiko (Ayase Haruka) re-entered the workforce. Her job is based in Osaka and she has been living in apart from her step daughter Miyuki (Kamishiraishi Moka) who is in Tokyo. Headhunted by a major consulting firm Acxel Business Partners, Akiko has been working energetically. She has achieved such remarkable results that the 10 years she devoted to raising Miyuki after her husband Ryoichi (Takenouchi Yutaka) passed away, is not a noticeable blank. Miyuki is now a lovely first-year university student who still does things at her own pace. She joined the university’s entrepreneurship club and continues to work part-time. Her relationship with childhood friend Kuroda Hiroki (Inowaki Kai) seems the same even though she rejected his feelings a year ago. One day, Akiko is suddenly fired and goes back to Tokyo. She visits Miyuki’s apartment only to see Mugita Akira (Sato Takeru), the owner of Bakery Mugita where Miyuki works part-time, come out topless from the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. To make matters worse, a baby boy is clutched in his arms. Then Miyuki returns home. Akiko jumps to the conclusion that this baby is their child. Miyuki and Mugita deny it, leaving Akiko confused by this perplexing situation.

Miura Aya has been feeling depressed even though she was given a promotion, and assigned from Kanagawa Prefectural Police headquarters to a police precinct as a deputy police chief. However, this is only a job title. In reality, all she has been doing is counter work. Hojo Yuriko retired but has returned as a part-time detective. This odd pair who are like oil and water team up once again. Freed from the constraints of the police organization in their current positions, they run riot.

Obuchi Takashi was a high school baseball coach well known as the "Red Demon Teacher" because of his tan red face and energetic instructions. He is now a tired, middle-aged man.

One day, Obuchi Takashi meets his former student Saito Tomoyuki. Tomoyuki played on Takashi's high school baseball team. He was talented, but did not have patience and eventually dropped out of school. Tomoyuki is now a responsible adult and married to Yukino. Takashi learns that his former student only has 6 months left to live due to having terminal cancer. Takashi regrets that he was so strict to his students. He plans something for Saito Tomoyuki.

A woman’s dead body is found in an apartment in Kokubunji, Tokyo. The decayed body seems like a half year has passed since its death and it is damaged by domestic cats that ate the body. The woman's death is thought to be a "lonely death" (someone died naturally without anyone noticing for a long period of time). Detective Ayano has doubts about that conclusion. The cats seemed like they were not house trained, which is odd for domestic cats. Detective Ayano wonders whether the cats were really owned by the dead woman. Detective Ayano then finds Suzuki Yoko’s bankbook in an empty fishbowl. It seems like the dead woman is 36-year-old Yoko.

Architect Ayukawa Itsuki is paralyzed from waist down. Although he was the ace of the basketball team back in high school, he injured his spinal cord in an accident while in the third year in university. After that, he decided that he would not play basketball or fall in love ever again because he is wheelchair-bound. Itsuki was Kawana Tsugumi’s classmate and her first love. Tsugumi liked drawing and her ambition was to get into art college. But she lacked confidence and gave up on the exam. Even though she got into an interior design firm, it is a clerical position. Itsuki and Tsugumi happen to meet again at a work-related drinking session. The two of them are attracted to each other. However, they face problems including disapproving parents, the appearance of a love rival and illness as they search for the meaning of happiness

Kasahara Sachiko’s (Kitagawa Keiko) parents died young and she lives in a Tokyo apartment with her only sister Nobuko (Koike Eiko), a journalist for a newspaper’s cultural department. She has not found a job and has been interviewing at a number of companies. On this day, Sachiko bids farewell to Nobuko who is leaving for a holiday at Lake Towada in Tohoku, and sets off for another company interview. This should have been the usual scene of the two sisters who share a close relationship. But that night, Sachiko gets news that Nobuko was killed in an accident, and for some reason, Nobuko lost her life in Nagano which is a different place from what she had told her. Nobuko’s colleague and fellow journalist Yoshii Ryoichi (Mukai Osamu) suddenly shows up before a grieving Sachiko. He sets out to investigate the mystery of Nobuko’s death together with Sachiko, but she does not know his true intentions. Meanwhile, Sachiko starts to work at the newspaper as her sister’s replacement and goes to meet the cultural figures that Nobuko had been in charge of when she was alive. Among these people with habits which are unimaginable from their glamorous appearances, is the pediatrician Nishiwaki Mitsutaro (Sawamura Ikki) who writes a column for the newspaper. He seems to be the greatest philanderer in celebrity circles even though he has a wife (Nishida Naomi), and calls Sachiko out many times. But right after that, Machida Tomoe (Sakai Wakana), who had been her sister’s colleague in the same department, commits suicide. She leaves behind cryptic words for Sachiko regarding Nobuko’s death. “There is someone who should take responsibility”, “All the more if it is a famous person”. Sachiko’s hunch is that her sister’s death is connected to someone prominent that she had been dating while alive. However, the more she attempts to learn the truth, the more “suspects” meet suspicious deaths one after another until she no longer knows who is her friend or foe. Sachiko has unwittingly been sucked into a deep darkness as if she is wandering about in a dark, dense sea of trees with no exit.

Hoshina Kyoko, Doi Tomohiko and Sakai Miwa have been leading ordinary lives working as adults. Raised at Yoko Gakuen which was isolated from the world and located on the mountain, the three of them enjoyed child-like lives and education and were supposed to be normal children. Tanabe Junko is a journalist who starts investigating into the murders, with the hope of getting a scoop out of it. She contacted Shinoda Junko, an ex-middle high school classmate of Satake, who claims to be buddies with her. Shinoda invited Tanabe to come up to her office for a chat. Meanwhile, having seen Tanabe on TV, Fukutome Junko, an ex-colleague of hers, called her up and invited her to her home. Tanabe paid her a visit, thinking she has a lead on the case, but instead, Fukutome, now a housewife, just keeps talking about her problem with the hierarchy within her company housing complex.

The Kaishinmaru is a hospital ship which goes around to islands without hospitals in the Seto Inland Sea to provide medical services. The doctors and staff live communally on this ship which has facilities like a hospital as it circles theislands. One day, a lone doctor is supposed to come to the Kashinmaru. His name is Sezaki Kota. He is a young freelance general physician who hails from Hokkaido. The nurses Togami Mako and Misaki Noboru; physician Uchimura Aoi; clerical officer Hiuchi Akira who is also Aoi’s husband; ship’s captain and chef Kaito Takeshi; and the rest of the staff prepare Kota’s welcome party. However, Kota arrives much later than the appointed time. He comes across Mako who has just taken a bath and is mistaken for a prowler. She sends him a flying kick. The next day, Kota re-introduces himself to the staff and immediately gets to work. This time, the Kaishinmaru visits Chitosejima. In the morning, Kota examines the island’s residents that have gathered. However, Mako is half-outraged by Kota’s irresponsible attitude such as a recommendation to a patient who cannot get relief from a stomachache to drink carbonated drinks. In the afternoon, Kota goes out with Mako for house calls. It appears that there will be a festival on the island tomorrow and they see a man practising on drums. On the way back from the house calls, Kota notices a woman, Murakami Mizuki, crying in front of a tombstone and he is captivated by her beauty. Mizuki is the daughter of Michinori who runs a shipbuilding business on this island. She and her father are at odds. Learning that Mizuki wants to protect the house filled with memories of her late mother and opposes her father’s intention to discontinue the business and sell the house, Kota decides that he will marry her and be Michinori’s successor. And so, he announces out of the blue to the Kaishinmaru staff that he is getting off the ship tomorrow … … Kota has a terrible weakness when it comes to beautiful women. He would fall in love with a woman he meets on each island he visits, declare that he is going to live with her and make every effort to solve the problem she has. However, various people would get drawn into this fuss. In the end, he would be dumped by the woman. Then, he would tearfully go on to the next island and fall in love with another woman and the same thing would happen over and over again … …

Tokuzo Akiyama is a young man from a rural area who is married with a child along the way. One day, he eats a delicious breaded cutlet which inspires him to strive to become a chef, specializing in Parisian cuisine. He travels to Tokyo, then Paris, France to learn the culinary arts. Despite facing discrimination and prejudice, he becomes a chef at the Hotel Ritz in Paris. At the age of 26, he becomes the Emperor of Japan’s personal chef.

Sakatsuki Shizuto is a mourner. He goes to scenes of accidents and mourns for the victims. Nagi Yukiyo, who killed her husband and served prison time, goes to the scene of the murder and meets Shizuto. She follows him from that time.

Other people that exists in their lives are Shizuto’s mother Junko who is terminally ill with cancer and waits for Shizuto’s return, his younger sister Mishio who is pregnant by her now ex-boyfriend and a magazine reporter who chases after Shizuto. Contemporary dancer Taira Kei's talent emerged at a young age and he went to study in Germany in his teens. Called the "young genius", he even won an international championship. But Kei did not fulfill his ambition. His dream suffered setbacks. Kei has now returned to Tokyo and has been working part-time order to take another shot at his dream. He takes great pride in dancing and will never accept half measures. That is why he earns a living by manual labour. Although he used to be full of ambition, he has been frustrated with himself for seemingly wasting away ever since he returned to Japan. At that moment, he falls in love with Nishihara Yui, an older teacher at a prestigious girls high school. He easily clears numerous hurdles with his youth and a boldness which is uncharacteristic for a Japanese, and starts to sway Yui's sense of values.

The story is based on the life of fashion designer Koshino Ayako, who passed away in 2006 at the age of 92. Although she was a successful designer in Japan, she also single-handedly raised three daughters who followed in her footsteps to become internationally known designers, named Hiroko, Junko, and Michiko. Ono's character in the drama, modeled after Koshino, is named Ohara Itoko. She will play the character from her teenage years to her fifties. The story is set in the Kansai region, but Ono will have no problem with the dialect since she is originally from Nara.

Kusakabe Gengo, a patrol officer of the Tsukigase domain in Western Japan, gets a visit from his son-in-law, Tsuda Iori. Tsuda probes if it is true that Gengo and the chief retainer, Matsuura Shogen, are truly childhood friends. Gengo and Shogen were childhood friends and went to the same kendo training school. 40 years ago, the two men were bound by such a firm friendship that they avenged Shogen’s parents together. However, they had differing opinions regarding an uprising raised by a mutual friend, Juzo, and fell out 20 years earlier. Gengo is handed a command from the lord of the domain to assassinate Shogen. Shogen, who quelled the uprising with ruthless methods, rose to become the chief retainer, but the rumours are that he has incurred displeasure because he is hindering the rise of the lord of the domain. However, Shogen is known to the public as an artist so it would look bad if he were publicly executed. Gengo, who has been ordered to handle it as a fight due to a personal grudge, searches for the place for Shogen to die. He decides to visit Shogen for the first time in 20 years. When the paths of the two men cross again as they approach old age, fate starts moving again.

One day, he faints at the hospital and awakens to find himself transported back in time to the Edo period. He is soon attacked by a samurai, but he escapes with the help of a man named Kyotaro. Kyotaro suffers a serious injury to the head while trying to protect him, but Jin manages to save his life despite a lack of proper medical equipment. Because of that, Kyotaro's sister Saki begins taking an interest in Jin and becomes his assistant. Meanwhile, Jin is determined to find a way back to the present. ~ Tokyograph

2 years have passed... Jin and Saki develop a sweet confectionery that contains medicine for Saki's mother who has a severe case of beriberi. Meanwhile, Ryoma asks Jin to care for Kaishuu Katsu's mentor, Shozan Sakuma. Shozan is in a critical state after being attacked by the Shinsengumi. Jin is reluctant because curing Shozan would mean changing the course of history. However, Shozan tells him that he too is involved in the “present”. ~ TBS

Heisuke Hara (Ryo Nishikido) works as a teacher at an all boys high school in Shizuoka Prefecture. 15 years ago he had an unfortunate accident which made his life go crazy. He has since become obsessed with his hometown and the school where he graduated from.

Due to declining enrollment at the all boys high school where Heisuke Hara works, the school plans to merge with an all girls high school next year. Prior to the merger of the schools, a culture festival is held for the students from the two schools. Heisuke Hara struggles to make the culture festival a success.

Since her father died, Mugiko (Maki Horikita) lives with her older brother (Ryuhei Matsuda). Her mother Ayako (Kimiko Yo) left home when Mugiko was little. Mugiko has not heard from her mother since that time. But one day, her mother Ayako comes back. Mugiko has mixed feelings with her mother's sudden appearance again, while Ayako hides the fact that she is gravely ill.

Maiko Osawa learns that her father died in Hokkaido, while on a business trip. She feels like a distant relative died, because her father did not spend much time with his family. During her father's funeral, Maiko is surprised when she learns of her father's secret.

Maiko and her family knew Maiko's father worked as the boss in the sales department of a large bakery company and was enthusiastic about his job. What they didn't know is that a fellow worker held a grudge against her father and her father was in heavy debt. Two detectives from Hokkaido arrive. Was her father murdered?

The drama is based on the best-selling same-titled novel by Shigematsu Kiyoshi. It tells the story of how a widower brought up his only son, after the death of his beloved wife. Ichikawa Yasuo, or Yasu as he is known, is a baka, with no paper qualifications to his name. However, like all normal parents, he dotes on his only son, Akira. Having grown up without his parents around, Yasu himself knows next to nothing of what parenting is about. With his wife, Misako, by his side, he had spent many happy days together with his little family.

However, when Akira was 3 years old, Misako passed away suddenly from an accident. Heart-broken, and filled with regrets, Yasu pulled himself together, in order to care for his little son. Together with the help of his friends, Yasu overcame it all, and Akira grew up to be a bright and successful young man.

Hayakawa Ai (Hirosue Ryoko) commits a crime which lands her in a correction facility for juveniles. There she meets & becomes firm friends with four other delinquents & falls in love with one of the wardens, Ariake Yu (Mikami Hiroshi), an artist with secrets....

In the middle of a bustling metropolis, how could it be that there is only one apple tree? No matter how much Hiroko jumps to try to pluck the apple, she cannot reach it. Fortunately, Kohji passes by and plucks the apple for her. Kohji is a rising young artist who because he lost his hearing at the age of 7, lives by only expressing himself through paintings. Furthermore, Hiroko is a young actress who practices acting with a drama troupe while holding a part-time job.

The two meet again and again in the park until one day, she learns that Kohji is deaf. Through their initial attraction, Hiroko begins to learn Japanese sign language in order to communicate with Kohji and as their relationship develops, several obstacles arise as well.
