Zhou Luo, a straight-A student, is the first one from Qingshui Town to get into a prestigious university. However, he returns to his hometown before completing his degree and goes to a cram school to repeat a year of school. His decision causes quite a stir in this small town. Had he not faced criticism himself, he would never have noticed another talk of the town, Nan Ya. Nan Ya is a very beautiful clothing store owner, and there are always a lot of rumors about her. She travels between the clothing store and home every day, taking care of her sick daughter, Wan Wan. As Zhou Luo becomes more acquainted with Nan Ya, he realizes that Nan Ya's marriage is not a happy one, and her husband, Xu Yi, a businessman, has a brutal side at home. Seo Ki Joo is a photographer and runs a small photo studio. He is the 7th owner of the photo studio and the shop is only for ghosts. Ki Joo takes portraits of the ghosts that come into the store.

Han Bom is a lawyer who is passionate about her work and does not tolerate injustice. Somehow, she ends up in a partnership with Ki Joo's photo studio. The studio also has two employees: Assistant Manager Go and Baek Nam Gu. Assistant Manager Go is in charge of bringing in ghosts as customers, and Nam Gu is in charge of taking care of small chores around the store.

Shirakawa Jiro is a genius author. At the age of 15, his novel for a magazine won the top prize. He has written 99 mystery novels as a trick genius since then. Shirakawa is tackling what would be his milestone 100th novel, but he has not been able to write anything and this has gone on for more than three months. Aonuma Kiryu is a genius interviewer who is able to get people to loosen their tongues. Taking pleasure in being an imposter, the unattractive Shirakawa has transformed into the handsome Aonuma. He does so in order to listen to what people say. While he has no interest in the truth, he seeks a real case which he had found through the internet as material for his 100th novel. It is the unsolved and sensational Tulip Murders which occurred during the summer of 1999. The grotesque abandoned corpses of two housewives were found with their skirts tied up around their necks by a homeless man. This was followed by yet another murder one year later. Together with the beautiful editor Kahiyama Rika, Shirakawa heads to the small town of Keshinohara where the cases occurred. As Aonuma, he interviews the people involved one by one and gets close to the hidden truth with his formidable powers of deduction. There is a miracle spring, a power healer; an affair, embezzlement, and cover up. What is happening in this hermetic town?

Personnel transfers take place at the metropolitan police department and Sakuragi Izumi is called upon by Nagashima Hideo who had been transferred to the special crime investigations prevention department.
