Set in Harbin under the puppet Manchukuo regime in 1944, Song Zhuo Wen, an underground party member disguised as a railway police officer, is mistakenly identified by the head of the spy department, Guan Xue, as her lifesaver—but is actually Zhuo Wen's long-lost twin brother, Song Zhuo Wu. To uncover the ultimate mission of Kwantung Army officer Asano Daigo in Harbin, Zhuo Wen decides to use Guan Xue to infiltrate the spy department, but the sudden appearance of Zhuo Wu plunges him into unexpected trouble. Guan Xue is cold-blooded and suspicious, cruel and ruthless, while Zhuo Wu is impulsive by nature, often unintentionally sabotaging Zhuo Wen's operations. Only through the arrangements of their superiors do the brothers cooperate and protect each other, avoiding the overt and covert struggles among their colleagues in the spy department and eventually gaining the trust of Guan Xue and the Japanese officials. Within this short year, the underground party members endure hardships to uncover and stop a secret operation conspired by the Japanese army and the Soviet Union, root out the puppet Manchukuo spies within their party, and welcome the final victory of the war.

The story tells of two groups of youths who are at odds with one another, who must work together to merge the two factions together. Chaos arises when the leader of the Northern faction Ming Ze Yu, and the leader of the Southern faction Yi Zheng He become classmates in the same class.

After the ancient Emperor defeated the demons, the shattered sword was broken into two parts. Two sword spirits were born - Zhao Yun and Mu Yun. However, due to the chaos caused by the battles, the two brothers were separated since birth. Zhao Yun was raised by a group of warriors called Flying Feathers, in charge of aiding Gong Yang Xiang’s quest to expand the Kingdom of Xiaoyue; while Mu Yun was under the Bronze Bird army of Wei Kingdom, who are cruel and oppressive, and often invade the neighboring countries. The kind-hearted Zhao Yun was heartbroken to see the people suffering due to war. With the help of Ye Ya Xi, a princess from a tribe, the two brothers worked together and overcame dangerous and difficult situations. In the end, they found the Emperor sword which symbolizes justice, using it to defeat the cruel and barbaric Chun Yu Yue, therefore destroying the Bronze Bird army and bringing peace back to the world.

Based on a fictional book about a Robin Hood in Korea, Hong Gildong, this drama is very loosely based off of that book and the time it was set in. Hong Gil Dong was the illegitimate son of a high ranked minister. A local monk took him under his wing and taught him martial arts. Hong Gil Dong was inspired to fight for the injustice in this society that divided people into nobles and ordinary citizens whereby the former enjoyed all the privileges due solely to their birth. The heroine, Heo Yi Nok, had just returned to Korea from China with her grandfather. They made their living by putting on shows and selling their special brand of medicine in the marketplace. Lee Chang Hwi had been told since he was young that he was the rightful heir to the throne which had been usurped by his half brother. He had also returned from his exile in China and was plotting to overthrow the emperor. The three got entangled in love, hate, loyalty and betrayal and only one side can win.

Mantaro comes from a rich family in Kochi who owns a brewery but because of him being sickly, he becomes the target of bullying. As a child, he has been fascinated with plants and decides to quit school so as to head to Teikoku University in Tokyo where he studies botany and works as a research assistant with the vision of creating an encyclopedia on all plants in Japan, he works hard to realise his dream.
